A Cure for Milk Allergies?

Thrive, the Children's Hospital Boston blog, is currently featuring entries about a family whose child is undergoing desensitization study at the hospital.

Dr. Lynda Schneider, Director of the hospital's Allergy Program, explains the study while the family describes their experience with grocery shopping, the trial, etc.

The site explains: "Until recently, the only treatment for allergies has consisted of avoiding the food and managing reactions when they occur.
This exposure desensitization trial-the first of its kind in the country-represents a bold new way of thinking about food allergies."

The blogs and videos can be seen on the

Welcome to the Seacoast Food Allergy Group

The Seacoast Food Allergy Group supports individuals and families with food allergies. We meets four times per year at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. The group is facillitated by Susan Engle. Our medical advisor is Dr. Barbara Deuell of Allergy Associates. For more information contact,

SCFAG History

The Seacoast Food Allergy Group was started by Melissa Bouzianis in 1998. Faced with placing her severely food allergic son in the care of teachers in kindergarten, she founded the group to meet others dealing with the same issues. At the time, very few resources were readily available to parents of food allergic children.

The meetings provided an invaluable source of support, resources and strength for many families coping with food allergies. The group expanded to provide community awareness, training to school nurses and food service staff, and advocacy for food allergy issues throughout the  greater seacoast area.
