FAAN Awards $1.1 Million to Research
We are pleased to announce that we’ve awarded $1.12 million through our Research Grant Program to six leading scientists who are working on potential food allergy vaccines and therapies.

This is our largest commitment since our Research Grant Program began in 2004.

Third Kids’ Congress on Capitol Hill
The Third FAAN Kids’ Congress on Capitol Hill will be held Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
This event is designed to help raise awareness about food allergy among our nation’s lawmakers and encourage them to direct more funds to food allergy education and research. FAAN members ages 6-18 are invited to apply for a chance to attend this two-day meeting in Washington, D.C. as Junior Ambassadors for their state. They will meet with government representatives to tell their stories of what it is like to live withfood allergies.

The application deadline is July 1. In order to target key legislators, we are especially encouraging families from the following states to apply: Arizona, California, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

FAAN Food Allergy Benefit Dinner and Concert

Join fellow FAAN supporters for a night of dinner and dancing to raise funds for food allergy research. The Benefit Dinner and Concert will feature popular children’s allergy singer Kyle Dine and an exciting silent auction. The event will be held Monday, June 8 at 5:30 p.m. at the Hillview Country Club in North Reading, Mass.

New Castle Fire Department donates $500 to Seacoast Food Allergy Group

Many thanks to the NCFD for the generous donation of $500 to our group! Special thanks to Volunteer Fire fighter Mark Syracusa, who is also a parent of a peanut-allergic child, for thinking of our group.  Join us at our June meeting with suggestions of how best to use it.

Food Allergy Virtual Media Roundtable
We are holding a free Webinar about food allergies for the media on May 6, 2009 from 1-2 p.m. ET. Reporters will be able to obtain information about the prevalence, treatment, and management of food allergies; what it is like to live with food allergies, and the state of food allergy research. If you are talking with a reporter about doing a story for Food Allergy Awareness Week, have them contact Jennifer Love at FAAN (jlove@foodallergy.org 703-563-3061) to participate in the Webinar.

The Webinar will be recorded and posted to our website so that anyone can view it.
